Settling In

Sissy and I retired at the end of January, 2015, and moved to Alabama in February. Nothing about moving is fun, and we've suffered some from buyer's remorse, but now we're getting settled in, and every day is better than the day before.

We live on 2 acres about 20 minutes south of Huntsville, AL.  We have a lot of trees, which keeps things shady and cool. We have a house and a shop, and have started a garden. We've done some work on the house - tiled the kitchen floor, painted all the downstairs, and had a new air conditioner installed (an huge unexpected expense), and some other maintenance. But we spent most of the spring and summer working in the yard.

We put in two cinder block vegetable beds by the driveway, but were pretty unhappy with it so we built a garden area in the back yard and will take out the cinder blocks this winter after the fall garden is finished.

As if we didn't have enough trees already, we planted a couple of magnolias and a half dozen dogwoods. We have also transplanted some shrubs (mostly Nandina and Chinese privet) from the garden area to put them along the fence between us and our nearest neighbor.

So now we're nearing the end of summer. We've started planting a garden for fall, and planning some new projects.
